One World Trade Center and Two World Trade Center, commonly referred to as the Twin Towers, were designed by architect Minoru Yamasaki as framed tube structures, which provided tenants with open floor plans, uninterrupted by columns or walls. They were the main buildings of the World Trade Center. On Nov. 3, 2014, the Skyscraper known as One World Trade Center (One WTC; formerly referred to as the Freedom Tower) in New York City officially opened its doors.
